Congratulations! Thrivent's local Shasta Lake Chapter has been identified as one of 5 chapters in the entire southwest United States Region (California, Nevada, Hawaii, Arizona, and New Mexico: 87 chapters total) as a Chapter of Excellence. While attaining this recognition level was not a driver in our actions, it is great that we are being recognized. Thank you, Trinity for your support of our 2011 actions!--the Thrivent Builds project (Habitat for Humanity house) reached its goal of raising the $16,000 support pledge, and all your volunteer help and financial contributions are greatly appreciated. Praise the Lord for making it happen!

The Evangelism Committee is continuing to reach out to Redding Loaves and Fishes. Their motto is “Feeding the Body, Mind and Spirit through the Grace of God and Love of Jesus Christ.” Items requested. Large paper bags (no plastic) are needed and also, laundry soap and personal hygiene items. Please make donations in the barrel in our Narthex. Thank you for sharing.

LUTHERAN MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER WEEKEND

Feb. 17-19, 2012         Holiday Inn-Rancho Cordova

Apply online at godlovesmarriage.org

More information: Ted & Marty Hartman, (530) 333-4628, tmheart1@yahoo.com

What happens on a Marriage Encounter Weekend?

The Marriage Encounter Weekend is a 48 hour interaction between husband and wife. It begins on a Friday evening at about 7:00 PM and ends around 4:00 PM Sunday.

Couples meet in a conference room, to hear presentations given by a Lutheran clergy couple and three other Lutheran couples. These are not classes or lectures. They are presentations that can lead to improving communications between husband and wife. Presenting couples tell their own story of techniques they have tried. They describe ones that have worked for them, and ones that haven't worked for them. They talk about areas in their life where they've had successes in communicating and areas where they're still struggling.

After each presentation, the couples are given a question, some time for each spouse to think and write about it, and time for the couple to share their feelings about that particular question in the privacy of their own room. It is not a group discussion. It is husband and wife sharing. Then, they return to the conference room for another presentation.  The weekend ends with a short worship service on Sunday afternoon.

Altar Guild News!

Chrismons: Work has begun on repairing and creating new Chrismons in Styrofoam and beading materials. Next workshop is Tuesday, February 14 from 1 to 3 pm at Kathy Pfeifer’s home (226-7728). Beads are not readily available in the craft stores so we are purchasing bulk pearl and brass plated beads online. Monetary donations made to the Altar Guild dedicated account #42.090917 would be greatly appreciated to help with the cost of these supplies. Work will continue throughout the year as supplies are available.

The 2012 Altar Flower Chart is posted in the Narthex near the front doors. $25 donation per sign-up suggested. Our floral cost each month approximately $86. Any overage in the Altar Flower account goes towards repair and purchases of special Altar Guild needs such as the Chrismons and hopefully one day repair to our brass Altar items. Make check out to Trinity Lutheran Church (mark “Altar Flowers” on memo line). Please submit payment by start of your chosen month.

The Baker Family, our missionary family, serving the Lord with the LCMS in Kazakhstan has a December Bulletin for your to read and catch up on. Stop in the Narthex and pick one up!
